Regular eye exams protect both your sight and your overall health. At LMC Optometry & Eye Care, our optometrists provide comprehensive adult and senior eye exams at eight clinics across Ontario: Barrie, Bayview, Bolton, Brampton, Ottawa, Richmond Hill, Scarborough and Thornhill.
Whether you need a routine check, an updated prescription or screening for eye disease, you can book online in a few minutes.
Do you know what the symptoms of glaucoma look like? What about age-related macular degeneration?
The answer to both questions is probably no. These ocular diseases (and many others) typically develop without any noticeable symptoms. The best and only way to detect these problems is through regular eye exams.
LMC Optometry is fully equipped with advanced imaging and diagnostic technology to evaluate your eye health. When you visit us for an eye exam, we’ll take a detailed look at your eyes’ inner structures to monitor even minute changes before they can develop into serious problems.
With careful screening and early intervention, the LMC Optometry team can help preserve your vision for years to come.
The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends different eye exam frequencies depending on your age. Generally, the older you are, the more often you need eye exams. We recommend having an eye exam at least once every year so we can track changes to your prescription, visual needs, and ocular health.
Your eyes change as you age, and the reasons to book an exam change with them.
Book an adult eye exam if you need a new prescription, spend long hours on screens, get frequent headaches or eye strain, wear contact lenses, or have a family history of eye disease. Adults with diabetes or high blood pressure should also have their eyes checked regularly, because these conditions can affect the retina before you notice any change in vision.
The risk of cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and dry eye rises with age, and early stages often have no symptoms. A senior eye exam finds these conditions early, when treatment works best, and helps you keep seeing clearly for driving, reading and everyday safety.
Certain medical conditions increase your risk for eye diseases. By asking questions about your medical history and the medical history of your family, we can determine your risk level for conditions like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, and more.
This is the part most people think of when they imagine eye exams. We will test different parts of your vision with different methods, including a Snellen chart, refractor, and visual field testing. Understanding what you see and how well you see it will help us evaluate your visual needs.
We’ll also evaluate the structural elements of your eyes and look for signs of eye disease. All eye exams include some testing of this kind. But depending on your medical history, age, and visual needs, we may add some extra imaging to get a better look at your retina, optic nerve, and other anatomical structures.
Your current glasses should always come with you to an eye exam! It helps your optometrist compare your existing eyewear to your new prescription and ensure that it’s performing properly.
